Donald McKenzie

 

Donald McKenzie of the parish of Tain, married Jane Dingwall in December 13, 1839 at Ross & Cromarty, Scotland. Donald is described as a Culloden in the Edderton marriage record, and was a carter according to Elizabeth McKenzie's marriage record. They lived in the parish of Edderton after the marriage, and moved to Rosehall, Sutherland, Scotland.

 

Donald died before 1861.

Jane Dingwall

 

Jane Dingwall ofthe parish ofEdderton married Donald McKenzie on December 13, 1839 in Ross & Comarty, Scotland. The marriage is recorded in both the parish of Tain and the parish of Edderton. They had at least two children:

Elizabeth McKenzie              b. 1842 in Rosehall, Sutherland, Scotland

 

Donald McKenzie was baptized on September 14, 1840.

William Philip Dowie

 

William Philip Dowie was born in 1838 in Aberdaigie, Perth, Scotland, son of James Dowie and Jane Shillinglaw. He married Elizabeth McKenzie on November 8, 1861. William was a journeyman gardener at the time of his marriage. He was living at Valley Field in the parish of Pennycuik.

 

The family lived at Penicuik, Edinburgh to 1864, then at Dunbar, Haddington in 1866, then at 78 Ladywell Street, Aecroplis cottage, in the parish of Springburn, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland in 1871. By 1881 they were living at 180 Henderson Street, in the civil parish of Barony, Maryhill, Glasgow.

 

William died before July 1890.

Elizabeth McKenzie

 

Elizabeth McKenzie was born in 1842 at Rosehall, Sutherland, Scotland, daughter of Donald

McKenzie and Jane Dingwall.

 

Elizabeth was a domestic servant living at Newhaven Manse in the parish of North Leith prior to her marriage. She married William Philip Dowie on November 8, 1861 at Newhaven Mause, in the district of North Leith, Edinburgh, Scotland. They had four children:

 

James Mathieson Dowie       b. May 25, 1862 at Penicuik, Midlothian, Scotland

William Dowie                       b. October 14, 1863 at Penicuik, Scotland

Donald McKenzie Dowie      b. January 29, 1866 at Dunbar, Haddingtin, Scotland

Alexander Dowie                   b. March 4, 1869 at Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland

Elizabeth Dowie                    b. 1878 at Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland

 

 

Elizabeth McKenzie was alive after 1890.

 

James Dowie was a Draper's clerk at age 18 in Glasgow.

William Dowie was a grocer's assistant at age 17.

Margaret Steadman was born in 1791, a daughter of George Steadman. George Steadman was a carter in Leith. Margaret was living at Cannon Milns in the parish of South Leith, Edinburgh prior to her marriage, She married John Barrie on October 11, 1815 in South Leith, Midlothian, Scotland. They had at least two children:

James Barrie                          b. 1823 in Leith, Scotland

 

Margaret Steadman was living after 1862.

 

David Barrie is believed to be the father of James Matthew Barrie.

Walter Watson

 

Walter Watson was a carter and labourer. He is also described as a porter in the 1841 census. He married Mary Baird on November 29, 1829.

 

The family lived at Spittal Street, in the parish of Stirling, Stirling, Scotland from 1831 through 1845. Then they moved to the parish of Erskine, Renfrew, Scotland.

 

Walter died before June 1862.

Mary Baird married Walter Watson on November 29, 1829 at Kilsyth, Sterling, Scotland. They had eight children:

Mary Baird was living after 1862.

Walter Watson apparently died young as he was not with the family in 1841.

James Barrie was born in 1823 in Leith, Midlothian, Scotland, son of John Barrie and Margaret Steadman. At age 17 in 1841 James was working as a agriculture labourer at School Wind, Kirriemuir parish. He married Mary Watson on June 13, 1862. James was living at 192 St. Georges Road, Glasgow at the time of his marriage.

 

James Barrie was a cotton yarn twister, or rope spinner.
James and Mary lived in the parish of Milton, Glasgow in 1866 through 1869 and the parish of St. Rollox, Glasgow in 1874. The family lived at 363 Neppachhill Road, Maryhill parish, Glasgow, Lanark in 1872. By 1881 they were living at 7 Barr Street, in the parish of St. Georges in the fields, Glasgow.

Mary Watson

 

Mary Watson was born August 4, 1832 in Stirling, Stirling, Scotland, daughter of Walter Watson and Mary Baird. Margaret Watson married Peter Pennie on January 18, 1853 at the parish of Stirling, Stirling, Scotland. She was widowed then married James Barrie after banns on June 13, 1862 at 186 St. Georges Road, Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland. Mary was a domestic servant living at 192 St. Georges road, Glasgow at the time of her marriage, the same residence as James Barrie.

They had four children:

 

James Barrie                          b. August 24, 1866 at Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland

Mary Barrie                           b. March 29, 1869 at Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland

Margaret Barrie                    b. April 10, 1872 at Maryhill, Lanark, Scotland

John Barrie                            b. December 28, 1874 at Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland

 

Mary was working as a furnishing shopkeeper by 1881.

Donald McKenzie Dowie

 

Donald McKenzie Dowie was born January 29, 1866 in Dunbar, Haddingtin, Scotland, the third child of William Philip Dowie and Elizabeth McKenzie. He married Margaret Barrie on July 17, 1890.

 

Donald Dowie was a journeyman saw maker living at 145 Henderson Street in the district of Maryhill, Glasgow at the time of his marriage. The family lived in Perth, Scotland. They emigrated to North Vancouver, B. C. in 1913. The family moved to Seattle by 1916 where Donald Dowie had a job with the telephone company.

 

Donald died in 1947 in Seattle, Washington, USA.

Margaret Barrie was born April 10, 1872 at 363 Neppachhill Road in Maryhill parish, Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland. She married Donald McKenzie Dowie on July 17, 1890 at her home at 94 Barlock Street, Possie Park, Maryhill, Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland. She was a sewing machinist at the time of her marriage. They had four children:

Margaret Barrie died in, 1942 in Seattle, Washington.

 

Mary Dowie married Robert Young. They lived in Seattle, Washington in 1949.

 

William P. Dowie and James M. Dowie joined the Army Engineers at the start of World War 1. They were both living in Tacoma, Washington in 1949.
