John Fowler was living with John Peorlows, a blacksmith, in 1841 as a blacksmith apprentice in Eddleston, Peeblesshire.

John was living at Manor Parish in the county of Peebles prior to his marriage. He married Janet Grosert on October 13, 1844 in Peebles Parish, Peebles, Scotland. The Manor parish is directly southwest of Peebles parish.

John Fowler immigrated to Canada in 1845. John and Janet settled at Scarborough, York, Ontario. John and Janet had two sons, William Grosert Fowler (born 1856) and Charles Fowler (born 1857).   Janet Grosert died in 1858 as shown on her tombstone.

Sometime after 1856, John started farming at lot 15, concession 1, in Morris township, Huron County, Ontario. The farm was near the town of Wingham, some 40 miles north of Stratford. Wingham's population was over 700 by 1874, mushrooming to 3000 by 1879.

The Ontario 1861 census shows John Fowler living with Margaret Fowler, born in Scotland, age 19 (born 1842), unknown relation, and William G. Fowler, age 5 (born 1856) all at Morris Township, Huron County, Ontario.

Jane Brown, age 32 (born 1829), at Morris, Huron, born at Lanarkshire, Scotland, parents Gilbert Brown and Mary. However, a John Fowler monument shows that his wife Jane Brown was born in 1820. Henry was a labourer according to his children's christening records. He died July 31, 1834 at Minety, Wiltshire, England at age 60.

(Note: The death record shows his age 57. If this is correct, he was born in 1776 or 1777 of unknown parents.)

The grave yard to the right of the old Minety Church has many old grave stones bearing the Hiscock name however many of the inscriptions cannot be deciphered. On one stone was the name Hiscock and in brackets (late of Oakney Park Farm). Apparently there have been no Hiscock at the Oakney Park Farm since 1858 as the male line of the family died out. The main house was run as the Oakney Manor Hotel for a number of years. It was demolished in 1958 as the hotel was too far off the tourist track to be successful. The building had some historical interest having been originally a hunting lodge for Henry VIII. The property includes a farm house with a three-quarter mile tree lined driveway, tennis courts, rose gardens and an old walled garden about 250 feet by 150 feet with stone walls 12 to 14 feet high. One stone in the garden wall is marked 1754. The farm house has three foot thick stone walls, fourteen rooms and with old hand hewn oak beams and rafters and a stone roof. It is not clear which Hiscock lived here.
